Mental health and wellness services is, I think, in its name. It’s like we’re saying, at forefront, mental health is important. And we’re not saying it’s only this package, you know, it only comes in counseling or it only comes in a certain way. Or you have to be in such a state of stress.
We’re coming from the standpoint that we’re all stressed out, actually, and that’s not great. And so instead of trying to say services must be met in a particular way for each person or each student, we’re actually going like, our full mental health and our wellness is ideal and important and we need to keep on that regularly.
It’s like a regular kind of thing versus intervention.
So we kind of have that built in with our department where we have preventative things that we’re working on with students, educational. And at the same time, there are still the services that provide that direct care if need be.
So we have lots of different services.
Again, it’s we try to implement something that’s based on caring. So there’s different types and different ways to demonstrate that. So sometimes that’s more intensive services or more traditional counseling services. And then there are other pathways, technically speaking, that that students can venture into. So it all depends on what is needed. And we’re not the only ones who decide that.
It’s very collaborative with the students. And so it’s more around being able to facilitate that conversation to then know which direction or what services might the student desire to take and how we can help support them in that.
We’re actually doing a lot of programing around direct services. So individual counseling, group counseling, you can have couples counseling if you want to have that. We also have services for psychiatric care.
And then we have a lot of wellness programing that sort of takes over some aspects of people who might not necessarily want or need more intensive counseling, that they can have an opportunity to express themselves in various ways artistically.
But I think at the same time, something really interesting we’re doing at Post is that we’re supporting those who are in sort of the front-facing student services. So we have an RA support system. We have a system in place that supports the community director. So I think sharing kind of that knowledge and being able to work collaboratively is something that Post is really, it’s fortunate that we can do that here.
