The first step is to get to know your student. The way we make it personal is we find out who that student is as a human. Find out who that student is, what they’re bringing to the table, and what they’re trying to achieve, regardless of where they are.
Are they a campus student living in the dorms? Are they a 45-year-old online student with two kids at home and a full-time job? They’re still Post students.
And so if I can get to know that student and really understand what’s motivating them, what they need, what they’re good at, what they’re weak at, then I can help allocate resources to them.
Do you need social and emotional support? Do you need mental health support? Do you need academic support? Every one of our students has different dynamics that they’re working with. If you get to know them first, then you can make it personal and really find what’s going to help them. It’s never a one size fits all.
Some online students come to us and say, I want to be super involved in all sorts of things, so please find me groups, clubs, events, activities, things to be a part of. Other online students say, I got kids at home. I’ve got a full time job. Just help me get through my degree and be there when I need you.
And so I like to use the word altitude a lot. And everyone has a different altitude, how much they want to be involved or how much they want to be just independent. But part of what really makes it work in both worlds is that our vision and our scope is in the right place to find what that student needs, to find what that student is seeking, how much of it they are seeking, and then be able to provide that for them.
We really care about our students. And so while we have resources in place for many different things, we’re also open, listening, learning, more and more about what our students might need for the future.
We are constantly building and designing and developing more things based on what our students feedback is, and what they might need from us, to have a wonderful experience Post. And really go home and say, I’m glad I chose them, and I’m glad I’m a part of that community.
