I’m from a very tight family. We grew up playing a bunch of sports, softball, karate, swimming. But in our last sport that we tried was basketball.
Tai, little Tai, definitely wanted to be a banker. So if she saw me today, she would be in complete shock.
My name is Taina Pagan, and I’m pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business Administration and a minor in Marketing.
So my search for a college experience was very extensive. I was being looked at by a bunch of schools, and I visited a lot of schools, as well. And I went to a lot of basketball camps to get, like, a feel for the school. So when I went to Post and I felt, like, that family atmosphere and, you know, the saying Post Makes It Personal®, like I genuinely feel like it’s true. I felt that sense of home.
Walking into the arena and standing on this court reminds me of how far I’ve come in such a short amount of time. I won a high school state championship here. But the game that sticks with me is the state championship we lost by two points. I was literally heartbroken, feels like I did all that work just to not be rewarded, basically.
Post really took my interest to heart and connected me to all kinds of amazing opportunities. They have a partnership with the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA professional basketball team and offered me an internship. Now I’m learning career-building skills on the very same court where some of my biggest high school memories occurred.
I’ve learned so much and got to see what life could be as a professional basketball player and as a business person. Post has opened so many doors for me. I may continue to play basketball professionally. I may pursue international business, and I know I’m well prepared for either.
Whatever I do, I want to inspire other women and other people of color to go pursue your dreams.
