The Honors Program at Post University is a wonderful way for both online and campus students, to prepare themselves to be workforce-ready contributors after graduation, to set themselves up for success, and to have a solid background to ensure they’re reaching all of their goals.
Students who have a qualifying GPA can join us for a whole host of experiences. They are able to take honors courses and participate in in-person honors events and also virtual honors events. So it’s a great way for them to become more involved with campus life, to build their resumes, and to get to know other students as well.
We allow qualified students to join at any time and to engage in a manner that reflects their own goals. So we have some students who take advantage of everything and some students who engage at a lower level.
It’s a resume builder to be a program member. So simply being able to add to your resume that you qualify to join the honors program communicates a level of academic excellence, because students do need to have about a B-plus average to be invited.
In honors classes, it’s a very enriching experience. We keep our honors classes smaller so the students are able to engage more closely with their instructors, and they’re also able to network amongst each other, share ideas at a deeper level, and really create a more close-knit community.
The Honors Club is its own club for students. Now, these are honor students or non-honor students. So the Honors Club is an opportunity for someone who perhaps doesn’t have a qualifying GPA to join the program, to still get involved with getting to know the honor students, getting to know some of the honors team, and planning events on campus, and participating in some professional development and community service opportunities.
I would say students should really feel encouraged to join the program. We’re very inclusive and we love watching our students develop and grow. There are sometimes students who get nervous and they say, Oh, no, you know, honors, I’m not sure if I’m ready to step up. But I encourage them to take the leap of faith and to try it out.
Because of the flexibility of the program, they are able to engage in a way that makes them comfortable. And in most cases, students who are nervous when they join us and try a few things out, they really fall into a groove.
So I would say, again, our program is just so special for the flexibility that we offer and the way that we develop and help our students to really reach their full potential.
