Well, the simplest way to explain a micro-credential would be a short-form assessment of a skill set that a person wants to achieve or has already earned. So the way I like to explain it is using the Scouts as an example.
So in the Scouts, you learn skills as you’re going through the process where, let’s say it’s fire building or setting up a tent or fishing. Those would be the skills. Those would be representative of a micro-credential. So they’re shorter than, smaller than a degree or even a certificate, but they still represent a skill that you would need to use in your career.
The micro-credential is the skill or that shorter-than a full-degree program credential that a student has earned. The digital badge is the digital representation of that micro-credential.
So the way that we’ve set it up here at Post University is to augment the degree in our pursuit of delivering workforce-ready graduates.
So your degree has a series of curricular items that lead to knowledge and skills, and then the micro-credentials that augment that build skills and abilities, so that when our graduates are ready to enter the workforce, ready, they have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be successful in their chosen career.
Within your degree program Post University, you’re going to have opportunities to earn these micro-credentials that are value-adds for when you graduate, so that you’ll not just have the degree necessary to inform potential employers that you have the subject-matter expertise, but you also have the micro-credentials and the digital badges to back up the skills that you also bring along with you to the interview.
